North Island Community Services Society (NICSS) is governed by a Board of Directors, who provide strategic direction to the Executive Director and our 50+ staff members. The Board of Directors are volunteers representing of various professional disciplines, our client group, and the communities we serve. We also have meaningful volunteer positions available in other areas of our organization, such as in the Second Look Thrift Shop, Teen Centre, and more.

Chair/President

Shelly Wadden

Shelly relocated to Port McNeill from the Kootenay's and has been on the NICSS board of directors since 2019. She is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and works as a Child and Youth Mental Health Clinician. Shelly is a lifelong learner, with a current focus in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and listening to the neurodivergent community.

Secretary/Treasurer

Kirie McMurchy

Kirie McMurchy grew up in Sointula and returned to the region after completing her undergraduate and graduate education. She works as a Registered Social Worker in a healthcare setting and has been on the NICSS Board of Directors since 2018. She is a mother of two and is forever grateful to be embedded in a tight knit community.

Director

Kathleen Westergaard

Kathleen Westergaard is a Mental Health Clinician in Private Practice. She focuses on supporting indigenous community members and provides services through the FNHA Mental Health Provider program. In addition to volunteering with for the NICSS Board, Kathleen is a director at large for the Northern Vancouver Island Federal Liberal Riding Assn.
